All customers are under obligation by Lebanese law to pay their electricity bills (Law 255).
BUS is regularly reading your electricity meters to record the accurate electricity consumption.
BUS submits the consumption information to EDL.
EDL issues your bills.
HOW TO UNDERSTAND YOUR BILL

Serial number of the bill (for internal use by BUS/EDL)
Branch number
Identification of your connection
6 digit number
Date of issuance of the bill
Date when the bill was issued
Installation number
Identification of your building and apartment
Number containing a maximum of 13 digits
Municipality number
Number of municipality in which the customer’s subscription is registered
Municipality of customer subscription
Municipality to which your subscription belongs
Name of customer
Your name
In case it is wrong, please refer to the meter reader and collector to request a change
Number of months
How many months of consumption that the bill covers (usually 2)
Previous and current meter reading
Amount of kWh recorded on your electricity meter on the previous and current bills
The difference of the consumption in kWhdetermines what you have to pay for this bill
Signatures and other records
The bill is signed by EDL (issue) and shall besigned by BUS meter reader and bill collector
Other records can apply here
Tariff
1st digit
Indicates the tariff applicable
0, 1, 2 – tariffs of tranches(most common)
4 – special tariff for industry andwater pumps
6 – special tariff for lighting
3, 5 and 7 – are no longer used
2nd digit
Applicability of certain fees:
0 = Location and stamp fees(most common)
1 = Only location fee
2 = Only stamp fee
3 = No location or stamp fee
3rd digit
0 = 10% VAT applies (mostcommon)
1 and 2 indicate special VAT rate
Value of the bill – consumption in kWh
Total consumption in kWh for period of the bill
Difference between current and previous meter reading
Value of the bill – fee for subscription
Rehabilitation – payment for subscription
Location – payment for meter
Depends on the parameters of your tariff
In case where the bill is issued for more than one month, the rehabilitation and location fees multiply accordingly
Value of the bill – parts
Value of electricity consumed
+ payment for meter and subscription
+10 % VAT
+ 1000 L.L. for stamp (obligatory)
+ rounding to the closest 100
= total amount payable
Value of the bill – total amount to pay
This is the total amount that you are required to payto the bill collector
Value of the bill – tranches of consumption
Most customers pay tariffs set in tranches – the more you consume the more you pay for extra kWh consumed
In cases where more than one month is being billed, the tranches multiply accordingly
Most of the customers have tranches:
First 100 kWh/month – 35 LL/kWh
Next 200 kWh/month – 55 LL/kWh
Next 100 kWh/month – 80 LL/kWh
Next 100 kWh/month – 120 LL/kWh
Anything beyond 500 kWh/month – 200 LL/kWh

Year and month denoting end of bill coverage. For example this bill:

for period ending 08 (month) / 12 (year), ie.August 2012
for period of 2 months
the above example bill is for a period of two months preceding August 2012 (so for consumption of July and August 2012)
